Types of Pallet Rack Solid Decking
The proper pallet rack solid decking allows warehouses, distribution centers and manufacturing plants to efficiently store bulk inventory or bags of bagged goods. These metal shelf boards attach to pallet rack beams and distribute the weight of inventory on the decking. This helps prevent items from falling through holes or gaps in the rack beams as they are moved on pallet stacks or by forklifts. There are different types of decking available to meet the load capacity, size and other requirements of each facility. The right one will allow a business to keep inventory organized, accessible and safe for employees to handle with materials handling equipment.
What Pallet Rack Decking Is Right for My Warehouse?
Typically made of steel with a powder coated finish, these shelf decks have a smooth 14 gauge surface for added durability. The underside of the decking has 12 gauge steel reinforcing channels to support the decks. The decks have front and back “waterfall” edges that fit into the standard 1-5/8″ step beams to secure them in place. This heavy duty decking supports a maximum capacity of 3,000 lbs per section.
Steel shelf decking is fire marshall approved and will help comply with current fire safety codes in the warehouse. The small holes in this style of decking allow air flow to the items stored on the deck and will also allow sprinkler water through the spaces in case of a fire. This decking is not recommended for fabrics or products that may snag in the small hole pattern.
